How  to get to Ayvalik

At the time of writing, Izmir Menderes Airport is the nearest for international and domestic arrivals. From the airport you can either hire a car or alternatively, take a bus to Izmir bus station (about 20 minutes) where you can catch a direct bus to Ayvalik. The journey time is approximately two and a half hours.

Korfez Airport, 50km north of Ayvalik at Edremit, is being upgraded to an international airport and is expected to re-open in the Spring of 2010. As soon as further information is available and definitive, we will update this page.

Alternatively, you may wish to fly to Istanbul and from there travel down to Ayvalik by coach or car. This journey includes a ferry to either Bandirma from the European side of Istanbul or Yalova from the Asian side. Travelling by car, the journey is approximately six hours; by coach, approximately eight hours.

A further option is to fly to Mytelini Airport on the island of Lesvos and take a ferry boat across to Ayvalik, but please note, the ferry boat schedules can be unpredictable.

If travelling by car, the routes from both Istanbul and Izmir are uncomplicated but do be aware that they are heavily patrolled by traffic police so travel documentation and speed limits should be strictly adhered to.

Cannakkele, Assos, the Kaz Mountains, Kozak and Bergama are all within one to two hours from Ayvalik.
Approximate Travel Distances:

Izmir 150km
Ephesus 200km
From Istanbul:
Ferry from Bandirma with coach/car to Ayvalik 223km
Ferry from Yalova with coach/car to Ayvalik 340km

Please see our location maps. We will arrange to meet you on arrival in Ayvalik and take you up to our Holiday House.
